Long Distance Moving

Long distance moving may be the most difficult of all types of relocating. It can also be the most exciting while being the most frustrating all at the same time. What you need to know is that the best way to survive the move is by keeping as positive an attitude as you possibly can. The way you view and feel about the situation will make all the difference in the world as to how easy and successful the move goes. If you do not currently feel positive about the move and are dreading it, there are ways to change that.

First of all, long distance moving nearly always brings you into contact with a location that will be new and different to you. This typically makes it more exciting just knowing that you will get to live in this new location and will have new things to explore. This part is especially important if you will be leaving an area you have lived in for a very long time. Allow yourself to “grieve” a bit at what you will be leaving, but do not dwell on it. Make yourself focus more on the move ahead and the wonderful new things involved in it.

Making lists is very important in long distance moving. In fact, it is most likely that a detailed list of all the things that need to be done is even more vital than with a normal, shorter move just across town. In moving long distances, you will need to make sure that you have the best moving company for your needs, get all of your utilities turned off, as well as get your address change to everyone who needs it, and set up connection dates for utilities at the new location. Those are just a part of the things that must go on that list.

In long distance moving, you will also need to decide if you are going to do the packing or if you will be trusting the movers to do that for you. Many people let the movers pack less valuable things or less breakable items while they pack the more valuable items themselves. The process is then reversed at the destination of the new home. This tends to work out quite well and keeps everyone happy while avoiding lawsuits.

Remember that moving does not have to be a horrible experience. It can be very exciting and rewarding. In the end, the way it turns out is really up to you.
